A collared mage and slave in the black of the King's Guard, DeJardin first appears pinched-faced and wary. Later, as a Blackbird escorting Jenna, he bows his head to her as though she were a lady and leads her to meet the emissary. His brief appearances suggest a man practiced in caution, yet still capable of a formal courtesy.
