king of Arden

• Minor
• First seen · Book 1 · Ch. 5

King Gerard Montaigne is a human man in polished court attire, wearing a dark doublet—black edged in gold or silver—with a shirt, dark trousers, sturdy boots, and lace cuffs. A heavy gold chain bearing his seal of office hangs at his neck, and an elaborate dagger is belted at his waist. His hands are meticulously manicured, with nails buffed to a soft shine; his lips and raised eyebrow are expressive, and his cheeks appear chapped when he is under the weather. His hair, eyes, complexion, age, and build are not established by the descriptions.
