Renard Tourant

Renard Tourant wears his importance as carefully as his custom-fitted uniform, but a tiny, almost-apologetic mustache keeps the effect from feeling quite convincing. His face is quick to betray him, flushing russet and paling again beneath the polished surface of a young cadet’s authority.

A young Ardenine cadet and son of Colonel Tourant, Renard is introduced through the after-hours gathering he hosts and the brittle privilege of his Wien House uniform. His brief story ends in the Tamron River, where he is found drowned; later, he is remembered among the cadets who died at Oden’s Ford. The book offers little beyond these fragments, leaving his place in the conflict as brief and grim as his appearance in the narrative.
Description
Renard is a young man in his late teens, dressed in a custom-fitted Wien House uniform that sits with conspicuous precision. A tiny mustache, so slight it resembles a shaving mistake, marks his otherwise youthful face. His complexion is described as shifting from russet flush to pallor, and his face can shine with sweat. His bearing has a wavering, overconfident quality, as though the uniform is steadier than the person wearing it.
