He has the composed, distinguished look of someone used to being listened to, though the sling at his arm gives his bearing a quieter edge. His thin mustache and measured presence make him seem formal, even amid disorder.

Elthal appears in the aftermath of disaster as the highest-ranking officer among those who survived. Limber and distinguished, with a thin mustache and one arm in a sling, he embodies the battered remainder of command. The book offers little more of his story, leaving him as a brief but memorable figure amid the wreckage.
Description
Elthal is a limber man with a distinguished face and a thin mustache. His injured arm rests in a sling, an unmistakable detail against his otherwise composed appearance. He carries himself with the restrained formality of an officer, even when visibly hurt.
