Nightblood is a sentient sword that speaks into Szeth’s mind and offers its own unnerving perspective, though Dalinar dislikes the sensation of hearing it. Its earnest attempts to understand laughter and its memories of Vivenna’s jokes reveal an odd, almost childlike curiosity beside its appetite for confronting evil. The sword feeds on Investiture such as Stormlight, and without it can consume the wielder’s own soul. Its terrible power and peculiar innocence make it as unpredictable as it is dangerous.
Description
Nightblood is a sentient sword, not a humanoid figure, and the passages here provide few details about the blade’s precise shape or finish. Its most distinctive visual impression is black smoke curling around the hands of the person wielding it. It has no face or attire; its personality is conveyed instead through a strangely pleasant voice and an eager, unsettling presence.
