Pattern is a Cryptic spren who bonds with Shallan, drawn to the patterns of thought and deception that make her both fascinating and difficult to understand. He accompanies her through danger and uncertainty, offering curious observations, blunt humor, and a perspective that is never quite human. As Shallan confronts painful truths about herself, Pattern remains a steady, if delightfully peculiar, companion. Their bond becomes an intimate expression of trust: he accepts her complexity without asking her to pretend it is simple.
Description
Pattern has no stable human body; he appears as a small, intricate arrangement of geometric lines that continually shifts and rearranges. His lacy pattern can form a changing symbol-like head, while long, slender fingers and bare feet lend him a playful, almost humanoid outline. Fine lines ripple over surfaces as he moves, making him seem less like a solid creature than a living design. He is smaller than other Cryptics, and his animated, springy manner gives his delicate form an unmistakably eager presence.
