Tozbek
Also known as Captain Tozbek
- Minor
- First seen · Book 1 · Ch. 4
Captain Tozbek is hard to mistake: his long white eyebrows rise in spiked, fanlike sweeps above a sun-darkened face, while a knit cap and buttoned black coat keep him looking practical. A scar at his jaw lends his steady presence a hint of rough weather and old mishap.

Tozbek is a Thaylen ship captain whose striking eyebrows and jaw scar make him an unmistakable presence. He is married, and his wife handles the ship’s undertext while he tends to his duties, including writing a letter. He remains associated with the ship and its crew throughout his brief appearances.
Description
Tozbek is short and even-shouldered, with darkly tanned skin from working in the sun. His most striking feature is a pair of long white Thaylen eyebrows, each about a foot long and lifted into curious, spiked shapes like waving fans. A scar marks his jaw, and he wears a simple knit cap with a black coat fastened by silver buttons. His practical clothes and steady captain’s bearing give him a weathered, workmanlike presence.
