Two Watchers

unique_object

Twin huge stone-carved throne-seated figures, each three joined bodies/heads (outward/inward/across), vulture-faces, claw-hands on knees, evil vigilant spirits

The Two Watchers, ominous twin stone-carved figures enthroned at the forbidden entrance to Minas Morgul in The Return of the King, embody the malevolent vigilance of Mordor's dark forces with their vulture-like faces, claw-handed forms, and triune heads gazing outward, inward, and across. These evil spirits serve as an impenetrable barrier, their supernatural power thwarting Frodo and Sam's desperate attempt to infiltrate the tower. Though appearing only in the series' climactic volume, they starkly symbolize Sauron's unblinking watch over his realm, heightening the peril of the quest's final stages.
