As the village elder at Boguchárovo, Dron stands between the estate’s authority and the peasants whose trust and allegiance shape the crisis there. He receives Princess Mary with deference, but when the villagers resist, his own loyalties become divided between her commands and his people. After keeping himself from the crowd, he finally gives up the keys and joins the peasants. His authority, once expressed through quiet obedience, ends in a choice that binds him to the village.

Description

Dron is a middle-aged man with a physically vigorous, straight, strong bearing. His most striking feature is a large, full beard, which gives his face a grave, commanding outline. He wears plain, practical clothing befitting a village elder, without conspicuous decoration. His lowered eyes and deep bow make his presence seem both deferential and quietly resolute.
