Mílka has the powerful, spring-loaded shape of a hunting hound, her broad haunches and black markings made striking by eyes that seem almost too large for her face. At rest she is affectionate and settled; in motion, she becomes pure speed and instinct.

Mílka is remembered first as a formidable borzoi, black-spotted and broad in the quarters, racing with the effortless speed of a carriage horse. She is devoted to her master, greeting him with an exuberant lick, and proves a keen presence in the hunt. Much later, an old gray Mílka lies beside Nicholas, her face gone gray and her large black eyes more prominent than ever; she is the daughter of the first Mílka.
Description
Mílka is a borzoi bitch with a long, athletic frame and broad, powerful haunches. Black spots and markings pattern her coat, while her large, prominent black eyes give her an intent expression. When she runs, she stretches her hind legs low and long, carrying herself with the fluid force of a racing hound. In old age, her face and coat are gray, but those dark eyes remain striking.
