Ramballe is a French officer whose ease and good humor persist through the marks of a hard military life. His scar recalls Smolénsk, a wound in his side came at Wagram, and a leg injury at la Moskowa leaves him limping. Even so, he remains animated and self-satisfied, greeting others with a touch to his hat and the irrepressible smile beneath his mustache.

Description

Ramballe is tall, handsome, and soldierly, with a mustache framing a self-satisfied, expressive smile. A scar marks his cheek, and he walks with a slight limp from an old leg wound; another wound has left a mark on his side. His face can grow conspicuously red and perspired, while his animated, good-humored expression keeps him from seeming grim. He wears the uniform of the 13th Light Regiment and carries himself with easy French officerly confidence.
