Rugáy is all taut motion and fiery color, a red hound bending into the chase as though speed itself had taken animal form. The clank of its leash and the sudden flash of its arched back make it impossible to mistake for an ordinary dog.

Rugáy, the Uncle’s red borzoi, is remembered in the fierce momentum of a hunt. Straining after the leading hounds, the dog surges ahead and knocks the hare from its course, rolling over with it in the rush. Mud spatters Rugáy’s arched back as the leash ring clanks—a vivid, brief portrait of instinct and speed.

Description

Rugáy is a red borzoi, long and agile, with the elegant, narrow build of a coursing hound. Its back curves into a pronounced arch as it runs, and its red coat is spattered with mud. A metal ring on its leash clanks as it moves, adding a small, sharp sound to its vivid, kinetic presence.
