The wolf

The old wolf moves with a quiet, wavering patience, its gray back and reddish belly marking it against the undergrowth. There is something almost human in its heavy brow, though its wary, watchful stillness belongs wholly to the wild.

An old wolf, marked by its gray back and reddish belly, it appears as a wary quarry in the hunt. Driven into a gully and pressed by the dogs, it struggles to escape, its fear plain in its flattened ears and strained, choking head. It finally leaps out, still a creature of instinct and desperate endurance.
Description
This is an old wolf with a broad, heavy forehead and a thick gray back above a conspicuously reddish belly. Its aging body moves with a subdued, swaying lope, giving it a worn, weighty look. When frightened, its ears flatten, its teeth click, and its head strains forward above an outstretched hind leg. Its fur is coarse and natural, with no adornment.
