Little Red Riding Hood appears in several playful retellings, shifting from a rosy, sturdy girl with frozen croissants and a Perrault plasma blaster to a child in a traditional scarlet cap and neck scarf. In another version she is a seven- or eight-year-old girl in a virtual world, carrying pies. These variations turn the familiar fairy-tale figure into a nimble, self-aware emblem of stories reinventing themselves.
Description
She is a small girl of about seven or eight, described in one version as pleasantly plump and rosy-cheeked. Her signature is a bright red cap—sometimes shaped like a traditional scarlet cloth cap—with a red scarf around her neck. She carries a basket, variously filled with pies or frozen croissants; one comic variation pairs it with a plasma blaster. Her look is youthful and vividly storybook, with the red headwear making her unmistakable.
