Knee-deep in the snow and surrounded by bitter cold, he keeps his camera trained on the scene with an almost startling persistence. There is a lonely, watchful quality to him, as if the lens is the one thing keeping the world within reach.

Yar Talalaev is introduced as a homeless boy who stands in the snow recording the preparations for a rocket launch without stopping. The brief glimpse makes his camera and unwavering attention more vivid than any account of his past. No further arc or relationships are given.
Description
Yar is a boy, described as homeless and standing knee-deep in snow in freezing weather. He holds a video camera and keeps it trained on the rocket preparations. The text gives no specific details about his face, hair, coloring, build, or clothing, so those remain undefined. His fixed, intent posture is the clearest feature of his appearance.
