Count Hasimir Fenring is introduced as a former imperial proxy on Arrakis and the husband of Lady Fenring, a slight figure whose apparent weakness conceals an unnerving, carefully controlled presence. A genetic eunuch and killer, he moves through the story in Guild gray, his mask of ordinary formality punctured by the nearly black blue of his eye. His peculiar habit of gesturing one way while turning or speaking another makes him difficult to read, and his sharp intelligence marks him as a dangerous observer.
Description
Fenring is a small, weak-looking man with a narrow, weaselish face and overlarge eyes so dark they seem nearly black; one is revealed as deep blue when his masking contact lens shifts. His hair is gray at the temples, and his formal Guild-gray clothing gives him a measured, official appearance. He moves with a disquieting indirectness, turning his head or making a gesture one way while his attention seems to go elsewhere.
