Sugar Hermits

Sugar Hermits first appear in Book 8 as unsettling, snail-like creatures whose shells are painted like Day of the Dead sugar skulls, with purple barbed tentacles sprouting from their eye sockets. Their introduction marks a shift toward more grotesque and culturally-infused monster designs in the later stages of the dungeon, blending festive iconography with body horror. As the series progresses, they represent the escalating creativity and cruelty of the dungeon’s later floors, serving as both a visual spectacle and a deadly encounter for crawlers navigating the increasingly surreal environment.
