Sytrece begins the series as little more than a cartographic footnote—an eastern neighbor of Deditia mentioned only in passing—yet its significance grows as the Hierarchy’s political and military intrigues expand beyond Deditia’s borders. Across subsequent volumes, the country shifts from distant abstraction to active participant in the larger struggle, its cities, resources, and ruling factions becoming entangled with the protagonists’ fates. By the later books, Sytrece is no longer a static backdrop but a dynamic arena where alliances are tested, betrayals unfold, and the Hierarchy’s reach is both challenged and redefined.
