Acacius of Amida served as Bishop of Amida during a time of conflict between Rome and Persia. When Persian captives languished in his city, he chose to sell the church's gold and silver vessels to ransom their freedom. His act of charity transformed the church's treasures into human lives restored.
Description
Acacius of Amida appears as a middle-aged Eastern bishop with olive skin and a full beard marked with gray. His dark eyes convey compassion, and his simple ecclesiastical robes of dark wool are adorned only by a golden pectoral cross. He carries himself with quiet dignity, his face bearing the gentle lines of one who has given much.
