Ammonius was a Nitrian monk whose actions in Alexandria led to his execution under the rod of the lictor. Following his death, his body was transported to the cathedral where his name was changed to Thaumasius, transforming him from condemned monk to venerated figure in the religious conflicts of Alexandria.
