Aspar rose through the ranks of the Eastern Roman military as the son of Ardaburius, eventually commanding the armies of the East across three generations of his family. Despite his Arian faith preventing him from claiming the throne, he wielded enormous influence through his military command and his employment of Marcian, who would later become emperor. His domestic and military household became a center of power in Constantinople.

Description

A commanding figure of middle age with the weathered appearance of a career soldier, broad-shouldered and powerfully built. His olive skin shows the effects of years in the field, while his dark hair and beard are touched with gray. He carries himself with the natural authority of a patrician general, dressed in ornate military armor with gold detailing and a purple cloak that marks his elevated status.
