Astolphus, also known as Aistulf, was the Lombard king who declared himself the enemy of both emperor and pope, successfully conquering Ravenna and establishing Lombard dominance in Italy. His reign marked a significant threat to both Byzantine and papal authority until he was forced to relinquish his conquests to the Franks, delivering the keys and hostages of his principal cities with bitter reluctance.
Description
A formidable Lombard king with the fair complexion and strong features of Germanic nobility, his bearing that of a conqueror who has claimed Ravenna. He wears royal armor and crown, carrying the weight of military campaigns and the authority of a ruler who once threatened Rome itself.
