Balista, also known as Callistus, emerged as a usurper in the Eastern provinces during the turbulent third century. Associated with the powerful Macrianus family, he attempted to seize imperial authority in the East while the legitimate emperors were occupied elsewhere. His brief claim to power ended when he was defeated by imperial forces, his ambitions crushed by the very authority he sought to challenge.
Description
A mature man of Eastern Roman appearance with olive-toned skin and dark hair and beard, his bearing suggests military command and political ambition. He wears ornate armor typical of Eastern Roman officers, with gold accents that speak to his elevated status and aspirations.
