Chrysanthius was a Neoplatonic philosopher and disciple who, along with another learned companion, filled the place of their aged master Aedesius. He artfully contrived dark hints and affected disputes in philosophical discourse, and as associate of Maximus, he prepared Julian for initiation into deeper mysteries. Though he refused to quit Lydia during times of political persecution, he survived to become high priest of the region.
Description
A Neoplatonic philosopher of mature years, Chrysanthius presents the appearance of learned contemplation. His face bears the marks of both scholarly wisdom and superstitious belief, with eyes that suggest knowledge of hidden things. He wears the simple robes appropriate to both philosopher and high priest, and his bearing reflects the careful navigation of one who has survived political dangers while maintaining his philosophical principles.
