Clovis began as an ambitious and valiant youth of fifteen when he succeeded his father, commanding warriors who could not exceed five thousand. He calculated the weight of interest, passion, and opinion in all transactions, eventually becoming the Christian hero who would place a diadem upon his head and wear the purple tunic and mantle of royalty. Through his conversion and conquest, he obtained the monarchy of Gaul for the Franks.

Description

Clovis presents the striking image of a warrior king transformed into Christian monarch. He wears the purple tunic and mantle beneath his diadem, with the battle-axe called Francisca ready at his side. His build suggests both the young warrior who could command through skill and the mature king who scatters gold and silver to the multitude with calculated generosity.
