Gallienus

Also known as Publius Licinius Egnatius Gallienus, Emperor Gallienus

There's something delicate and refined about this young co-emperor, an almost artistic sensibility that seems at odds with the harsh realities of imperial rule. His presence suggests someone more comfortable in the cultured atmosphere of court than on the battlefield.

Gallienus began as young co-emperor ruling jointly with his father for seven years before assuming sole rule for eight more years. He displayed the majesty of empire at the court of Treves with his infant son Salonius, received news of the capital's deliverance from barbarians, issued edicts prohibiting senators from military employment, and personally led armies against the Alemanni and Goths before his assassination during a conspiracy.

Description

A Roman emperor with notably effeminate features and delicate facial structure, wearing imperial purple robes and a golden laurel wreath. His carefully styled hair and slender build convey refinement rather than martial bearing, seated with imperial dignity at court surrounded by the ornate trappings of Roman majesty.
