George Pachymeres stands as one of Gibbon's primary Byzantine sources, a historian whose prolix and languid narratives chronicled the declining empire in enormous folios. His work, though dense and sometimes tedious, provided crucial documentation of the Byzantine period that Gibbon would later condense into his sweeping historical narrative.
Description
A middle-aged Byzantine scholar with a scholarly stoop, pale olive skin, and dark eyes set beneath heavy brows. His short dark hair recedes at the temples, and he wears flowing dark robes with subtle embroidery. He is perpetually associated with the enormous leather-bound folios that contain his prolix historical writings.
