Hassan the Janizary was the first Turkish soldier to scale the walls of Constantinople during the final assault. Of gigantic stature and strength, he ascended the outer fortification with cimeter and buckler, only to be precipitated from the rampart. Rising on one knee, he was killed by a shower of darts and stones alongside twelve companions.
