Henry Courtenay, Marquis of Exeter, enjoyed the favor of his cousin Henry VIII and demonstrated his prowess by breaking a lance against the French monarch at the Field of Cloth of Gold. His royal favor proved to be the prelude to disgrace, which became the signal of his death as a victim of the jealous tyrant.
