Hormisdas, also known as Hormisdas the Persian, was a fugitive Persian prince of royal race who escaped from prison and converted to Christianity. Serving in the Roman military, he narrowly escaped capture, acted as an intermediary with secret Persian ministers, and was invested with the extraordinary powers of a Roman Proconsul. His youth, spirit, and ability marked him as a wise and experienced advisor.
