John of Damascus, also known as St. John Damascenus or Mansur, was the last of the Greek fathers who devoted himself to theological writing against Iconoclasm. Born a noble of Damascus, he became a monk of St. Sabas and used his learning to challenge imperial religious policy both in this world and the next.
