There's something haunting about his presence—the dignity of imperial blood marked by the tragedy of blindness. He carries himself with the unconscious authority of one born to rule, even as darkness has claimed his sight.

John of Selybria was the blind cousin of Emperor Manuel who claimed the Byzantine throne during a period of civil strife. Despite his blindness, he asserted his imperial rights and became embroiled in the complex succession struggles that marked the declining years of Byzantine power.
Description
A blind nobleman of Byzantine imperial lineage, his sightless eyes marking him as one who has lost the ability to see the world he was born to rule. His bearing retains the dignity of his noble birth, and his features reflect the aristocratic bloodline of the Palaiologos family.
