Julia Domna began as a young lady of Emesa in Syria whose royal nativity marked her for greatness. As wife of Severus, she administered empire affairs during her son's reign, her attractions of beauty persisting even in advanced age alongside her lively imagination and firmness of mind. She would experience the vicissitudes of fortune, attempting to protect her younger son Geta during his assassination and ultimately doomed to weep over the death of one son and the life of the other.

Description

A Syrian woman of royal bearing whose attractions of beauty persist even in advanced age. Her presence is marked by lively imagination and firmness of mind, with the bearing appropriate to an empress who has experienced the full range of fortune's vicissitudes. Her most distinctive feature is the wounded hand she sustained while attempting to protect her younger son, covered with his blood.
