Kilij Arslan, known as Soliman of Nicaea, ruled as sultan of Nicaea and proved himself a formidable opponent to the crusading armies. He orchestrated the devastating ambush in the plain of Nice, where Turkish arrows overwhelmed the main body of crusaders. His tactical brilliance established him as a significant power in the region during the early crusades.
