Louis IX of France united the virtues of king, hero, and man in his person, leading the Seventh and Eighth Crusades with a combination of martial zeal and genuine piety. His complete armor and the oriflamme waving before him became symbols of French crusading ambition, though his campaigns ended in capture in Egypt and death on the African coast. His saintly character and just rule would eventually lead to his canonization.
Description
An adult French king wearing complete armor appropriate to 13th century crusading monarchs, carrying the distinctive oriflamme standard. His royal dignity combines with crusading zeal, creating a presence that suggests both martial authority and saintly character. The oriflamme banner serves as his most distinctive visual marker.
