Lucas Notaras rose to become great admiral of the Byzantine fleet, also holding the position of great duke and usurping the office of great logothete. His obstinate attachment to his own sentiments made him a significant political figure who declared his views as the absolute measure of imperial thought. Despite his position and offered treasures, he met his end along with his two sons when his wealth was questioned by the sultan.

Description

Lucas Notaras presents the imposing figure of a Byzantine admiral, his rank evident in his elaborate military dress and the insignia of great admiral and great duke. His bearing reflects both his naval command and his political influence, marked by the formal attire appropriate to his ministerial positions and the authority that comes with high office.
