Macrianus Junior rose alongside his father as a co-usurper in the Eastern provinces during the turbulent reign of Gallienus. Together they challenged central authority, establishing their own imperial claim in opposition to the legitimate emperor. Their brief ascendancy ended when both father and son were defeated and killed by Aureolus, loyal to Gallienus.
