Mebodes served as a loyal Persian commander who demonstrated his devotion by fixing the diadem upon Chosroes's head and later liberating Modain with two thousand horse. His military discipline was legendary—he would delay even royal audiences to complete his reviews, and his loyalty extended to presenting the sacred palace ornaments to his sovereign. His career ended tragically when he was commanded to the iron tripod before the palace gate, where he languished for days before his sentence was pronounced.
