Olybrius, a senator of the prestigious Anician family, briefly held the imperial throne with the support of Ricimer. Having married Placidia, daughter of Valentinian, his brief seven-month reign represented one of the final attempts to maintain traditional Roman governance amid the collapse of imperial authority in the West.
Description
A middle-aged man of Roman senatorial rank, wearing the white toga with purple stripe that marks his membership in the ancient Anician family. His dignified features and receding hairline reflect the traditional appearance of late Roman nobility. He carries himself with the measured bearing of one born to the ancient aristocracy.
