Pope Paschal II served during a turbulent period marked by conflicts between papal and secular authority. He was interrupted during Holy Thursday services and assaulted during Easter processions, yet maintained his opposition to the Colonna family's usurpation of Cavæ. His papacy was defined by the struggle to maintain ecclesiastical independence against powerful noble families.
Description
A Pope with the ecclesiastical bearing appropriate to his office, wearing papal robes while officiating before an altar. During Easter processions, he appears barefooted as part of the ceremonial observance, maintaining the dignity of his position despite the challenges to his authority.
