Saloninus was the infant son of Gallienus who was ceremonially displayed at the court of Treves and granted the titles of Caesar and Augustus. His brief life ended tragically when he was slain at Cologne by the usurper Posthumus.
Description
An infant displayed at court, dressed in miniature imperial purple robes with golden ornaments befitting his rank as Caesar and Augustus. His appearance combines the innocence of early childhood with the elaborate ceremonial trappings of empire.
