Robert of Courtenay

Also known as Emperor Robert

There's something both regal and restless about this young emperor whose passions seem to rule him as much as he rules his empire. His bearing carries the weight of Latin imperial authority while his eyes suggest the turbulence of youth thrust into power beyond his years. When he appears, the very air seems charged with both imperial dignity and barely contained emotion.

Robert of Courtenay began as the second son of Peter and Yolande who pursued a careful journey through Germany and along the Danube to avoid his father's misfortunes. Crowned by the patriarch in the cathedral of St. Sophia, his reign became an era of calamity and disgrace for the Latin Empire. His amorous nature led him to neglect his Greek bride in favor of a beautiful maid from the noble family of Artois, ultimately resulting in violent consequences that marked his brief imperial career.

Description

A young adult emperor of Latin Constantinople, bearing the features of French nobility with the imperial regalia including crown and ceremonial robes appropriate to his station. His appearance reflects both the dignity of his imperial position and the volatility of youth, with the bearing of one born to nobility but perhaps not yet tempered by the full weight of sovereignty. His presence commands attention while suggesting the passionate nature that defines his character.
