Sapor II began as an ambitious young monarch animated by the desire to avenge his fathers' disgrace, ruling with a judicious mixture of rigor and clemency. Over the course of his long reign, he transformed from a proud conqueror making artful overtures to a humbled suppliant taking meals on the ground with disordered hair, before ultimately emerging triumphant with his royal dignity restored.
Description
A Persian king in the vigor of youth despite his long reign, wearing the royal crown and Persian insignia of his office. His appearance combines the bearing of both soldier and statesman, with dark hair and beard, commanding presence, and the golden royal standard that marks his sovereignty.
