Seronatus was a flagitious minister known as the Catiline of his age and country, who held secret correspondence with the Visigoths to betray the province of Auvergne which he oppressed. His industry was continually exercised in the discovery of new taxes and obsolete offences, leading to his condemnation and execution on the complaint of the people of Auvergne.
Description
A middle-aged Roman official whose corrupt demeanor and calculating expression mark him as a provincial administrator of the worst sort. His features suggest both the fear he inspires and the contempt his vices generate, wearing the dress appropriate to a Roman provincial official while maintaining the bearing of one who abuses his authority.
