Thomas Palæologus was the surviving son of Emperor Manuel who lived far from the capital in the Morea. When he returned to Constantinople, he asserted his brother's interests with zeal and formed alliances confirmed by oaths. After the fall of the empire, he fled with his family to Corfu and then Italy, bringing with him the head of St. Andrew and receiving a papal pension as a refugee prince.
Description
An adult male with the bearing of Byzantine imperial lineage, dressed in the garments befitting a despot. His presence conveys both the dignity of ancient Roman imperial blood and the displacement of a refugee prince, with the solemn demeanor of one carrying religious relics and the weight of lost empire.
