Ulpian rose to become one of Rome's greatest jurists and praetorian prefect under Alexander Severus. His ten-book work on the office of proconsul and his position among the five great civilians established him as an oracle of jurisprudence, though his defense of law ultimately led to his murder by mutinous guards.

Description

Ulpian appears as an adult male of dignified bearing, wearing the toga with senatorial stripe appropriate to his rank. His intellectual presence reflects years of legal scholarship, carrying scrolls of his writings and moving with the measured authority of one who serves both law and people.
