Uraias served as nephew to King Vitiges during the Gothic wars in Italy. When Milan rebelled, he was entrusted with adequate forces to restore order. Later, when supreme command was offered to him after the death of his uncle, his voice proved decisive in elevating Hildibald instead, demonstrating both his military capability and his political wisdom.
