There's something poignant in his late-acquired literacy and sudden elevation, the awkward dignity of a man thrust from obscurity into the imperial spotlight without the education or preparation such a role demands.

Vetranio began as an aged general of obscure parentage from the wildest regions of Moesia, a man who learned his letters only after his unexpected elevation to power. His brief usurpation in Illyricum ended when he removed his diadem and fell prostrate at Constantius's feet, abdicating his claim and returning to the obscurity from which he had briefly emerged.
Description
An elderly general whose aged features reflect both his advanced years and his origins among the obscure populations of Moesia. His bearing carries the awkward dignity of late literacy and sudden elevation, marked by the diadem that briefly proclaimed his imperial pretensions.
