Kalam Mekhar is a hulking, black-skinned former Claw assassin turned Bridgeburner corporal whose bearish frame belies a deadly, gliding grace. In Gardens of the Moon he serves Whiskeyjack's squad in the Genabackis campaign, guarding Quick Ben through perilous sorcery, distrusting the possessed recruit Sorry, and brokering the Empire's contract with the assassin Vorcan in Darujhistan before helping stop Lorn. By Deadhouse Gates he has turned renegade, journeying across the Seven Cities and the sea with a secret aim of assassinating Empress Laseen, hunted by his old Claw masters Topper and Pearl while finding unexpected love with Minala.

Description

A large, heavy-set, bearish man with black skin, a scarred face, and dark eyes. He has thick arms and legs and a bristly jaw. His bearing can seem to glide with dangerous grace despite his size. He carries long-knives, described as horn-handled with silver pommels, in a narrow belt. A powerfully built black-skinned man with a solid, bear-like frame and brute strength evident in his movements. He wears a red telaba robe over chain armor, often with a hooded scarf or cloak featuring gauze vents for vision and hearing. His presence carries a feral intensity suited to an assassin navigating harsh desert and sea voyages.
