Vindication begins as Waxillium Ladrian's signature sidearm in the rough-and-tumble frontier of the Roughs, a fully aluminum revolver designed to neutralize Allomancers and Feruchemists alike. Over the course of the series, the weapon evolves from a utilitarian tool of law enforcement into a symbol of Wax's personal code and his transition from lawman to statesman. By the time of The Lost Metal, Vindication has become both a literal and metaphorical extension of Wax's will, its aluminum construction serving as the perfect counter to the increasingly sophisticated metallic threats he faces.
